Best cordless vacuums for apartments

An apartment needs less battery than the box promises and more bin than most sticks have. I'd start with the LG CordZero Q3, and I'd only buy the Miele for a very small hard-floored home.

If you buy through a link here, the store may pay me a commission. Your price stays the same. How that works.

  1. Drawing of stick vacuum in a lit arch, with a small owl on top

    Best for most apartments

    LG CordZero Q3

Floor detection and a compressing bin suit mixed floors. It isn't free-standing, so plan for the wall mount.

  2. Drawing of stick vacuum in a lit arch, with a small owl on top

    Best for a large apartment

    Shark PowerDetect IP1251

TechRadar got about 47 minutes on an average clean with the IP3251 version. It's heavy, and the longest runtime only works on hard floors.

  3. Drawing of stick vacuum in a lit arch, with a small owl on top

    Best for small hard-floored apartments

    Dyson V8 Cyclone

TechRadar says its low mode is plenty on hard floors. Which? timed 8 minutes at maximum, so carpet is the catch.

  4. Drawing of stick vacuum in a lit arch, with a small owl on top

    Best for quick pet-hair pickups

    Shark Impact Pet IX141

RTINGS rates its pet hair pickup on carpet highly and calls its filter awful, so skip it for allergies. Abt lists one attachment.

  5. Drawing of stick vacuum in a lit arch, with a small owl on top

Best for a very small home

    Miele Duoflex HX1

TechRadar's hard-floor run lasted 21 minutes and a tiny bin filled in 5 minutes on carpet. Buy it only for a couple of rooms.

Ideal Home's buying guide says smaller homes suit a stick vacuum, since a shorter battery won't be a major issue. I agree, with one change. Apartment dwellers should worry about the bin and the storage spot first. Battery comes third.

I didn't run these five. The timings come from Which?, TechRadar and Tom's Guide, and the area lines are my own opinion. Prices were checked November 2, 2026, and they're Abt's prices or list prices, before any rebate.

LG CordZero Q3, $329

This one suits an apartment of up to about 1,000 sq ft (93 m²) with rugs or some carpet. It's rated at 60 min, which Abt's footnote puts on the lowest setting without powered tools, and Tom's Guide got about 22 minutes on the highest setting. The bin holds 0.9 L on Tom's Guide's spec table, and a lever packs the dirt down.

Tom's Guide found it hard to push on a low-pile rug. It also isn't free-standing, so it needs a wall spot. At 84 dB rated, it's loud for a shared wall. Measure that gap before you commit.

Shark PowerDetect IP1251, $449.99

Take this to a large apartment, about 1,000 to 1,500 sq ft (93 to 139 m²). TechRadar tested the IP3251, this vacuum with an auto-empty base, and clocked 67 minutes in Eco, 14 in Boost, and around 47 on an average clean switching between power levels. Which? timed the UK IP1251UKT at 59 minutes on minimum power and 13 on maximum.

The catch is 7.96 lb, which TechRadar calls on the larger and heavier side. I'd think twice if you carry it up to a walk-up. TechRadar adds that Eco won't run on carpets or rugs.

Dyson V8 Cyclone, $399

A small apartment with hard floors, under about 700 sq ft (65 m²), is its home. TechRadar says the lowest of three modes is plenty on hard floors. Which? measured 43 minutes there against a 60 min rating, and 8 minutes at maximum power.

The 0.53 L bin is the second catch. Carpet would fill it fast, and a shedding dog faster.

Shark Impact Pet IX141, $299.99

RTINGS tested this model number as the Cordless Pet IX141, and most of its results sit behind a membership. The summary I could read says outstanding pet hair pickup on carpet and trouble lifting fine material out of it. It calls the filter awful, says it blows fine dust into the room, and warns that emptying the bin releases a cloud of dust. It's rated for 40 min, and Abt notes that figure is measured at the hand vac in standard mode, without accessories. So on the floor with a wand, expect less.

It suits a home under 700 sq ft (65 m²) where you chase pet hair for ten minutes at a time. Abt lists one attachment, a crevice tool, while RTINGS praises an upholstery tool, so check the box. Abt's HEPA line reads No, and I'd skip it for allergies. The rebate Abt showed on November 2, 2026 ends November 21, 2026, and it's worth checking before you compare it with the others.

Miele Duoflex HX1, $649

I'd only buy this for a studio or a two-room apartment with hard floors. TechRadar's review, of the UK Cat & Dog version, is blunt. It says the 55 min rating needs the non-motorized hand tools. On the floor head it got 21 minutes on hard floors at low power, 13 and a half on carpet at low power and 11 on carpet at high. A bedroom carpet that wasn't very dirty filled the 0.3 L bin in five minutes, and emptying could get messy.

TechRadar did like the build, and it coped with stairs. It still calls the battery short. That's a hard sell at this price.

Before you buy

Measure the spot where it will live, and count the carpeted area, since every short run above came on carpet or at maximum power. If the numbers still look optimistic, read why runtime claims slip. If your floor is mostly carpet, my guide to vacuum type by home size may steer you to something corded, and the home sizer takes your own floor area.
