AHAM's rule says a purifier's CADR should be at least two-thirds of the room's area. It's the most useful number on the box, and I'd still lower it for the fan speed you can sleep through.

A place setting is a defined set of pieces with a 10-inch dinner plate in it, and it has no pots. I'd treat any capacity number as a best case.

The Department of Energy moved its test from 80°F to 65°F, so a dehumidifier once sold as 60 pints would now read about 35. I'd replace an old unit using Energy Star's rough conversion table, and ignore the number on the old box.

The big number on the box is usually lowest power, often on hard floor, sometimes without the wand. TechRadar and Which? timings show what's left, and I'd size a home on those.
